Six years ago today I was nervous…I was excited…there was anticipation of what was to come. It was this day that my life was going to change forever! Today marks the day I asked my wife Rochelle to marry me. That’s right…right before the Thanksgiving meal with both of our families present. She never saw it coming!
We went around the table telling everyone what we were thankful for. Except this year there was a twist. Everyone had a card underneath their plate with a question that they had to answer. Each question was created to make us focus on what it was that we were thankful for that year and to remember the things that God had done in our lives. My question asked, “What is the greatest thing that God did in your life this year?” My answer? “I can’t really fully answer that question until Rochelle answers the question that is under her plate.” As she lifted her plate to look at the question on her card, I took the ring out of my pocket and got down on one knee. Her question read: “Will you marry me?” She was absolutely surprised as she read the card and looked at the ring. It didn’t take long before she said yes to the question.
I must say that I really didn’t taste the Thanksgiving meal that day. I am sure it was great, but I really didn’t care. All I cared about was that I was getting married to the woman I loved. That was a Thanksgiving I will never forget!
This is why Thanksgiving is more than just a holiday for Rochelle and I. It is an anniversary! Six years later as I sit typing this post…I am trying not to wake out daughter Madelynn who is already one years old. What a difference six years can make! I can’t believe how fast time has gone. I love my wife more than ever and I am so glad that we have been able to celebrate just over five years of marriage. I have so much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving!
What do you have to be thankful for this Thanksgiving?
