Today’s Reading: Matthew 21:1-11
Today is an exciting day as we begin to prepare ourselves for the greatest day in history, the resurrection of Jesus Christ. I believe over the next forty days God will speak to us as a church family and stir something new within us. My prayer is that we would not stumble into this Easter season but that we would anticipate what God wants to do in us. My prayer over these next forty days is that we would encounter Christ in a fresh way.
In today’s reading we read about Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem from Matthew’s perspective. In this very short passage there is so much to reflect on. One phrase that catches my attention is Matthew’s description of the city of Jerusalem as Jesus entered.
“When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, ‘Who is this?’ The crowds answered, ‘This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.’”Matthew 21:10-11 NIV
Jesus’ presence had a tangible effect on the city of Jerusalem. The whole city was stirred. This shows us that people cannot encounter Christ and leave the same. Wherever Jesus is, that environment will be stirred…it will be disrupted in some way.
Think about the following questions as you go about your day.
1. As you read this passage what is Jesus stirring in your heart?
2. How are the various environments that you are in being stirred as you bring Jesus into them?
