I’m Full!

Jeff  —  November 30, 2013 — Leave a comment

I’m not full just because of all of the turkey and pie that I have consumed this week, but I am full as I think about the past fifteen months of my life.  As you can see, I have been very quiet here on my blog during that span of time.  And by quiet…I do mean incredibly absent.  Even though I have been absent here, I have endeavored to be incredibly present in other areas of my life.  The past fifteen months for my family and I has been an incredible season of transition and new beginnings. Following is just the tip of the iceberg.

1.  We have moved to Henderson, KY to assume the Senior Pastor role of First Assembly of God.
Leading a thriving church has been a dream of mine since I was very young.  After God called me into the ministry, I always knew that I would lead a church and trusted God to bring about the correct timing.  In July of 2012 that dream was realized as I was elected Senior Pastor of First Assembly of God.  The past fifteen months has been filled with moving to a new city, building new relationships, getting settled into a new house, and getting to know and love the staff team that God has put in place here at First Assembly.  We have seen many exciting things happen over the past number of months as people have come to Christ, been baptized, and have been equipped for ministry.  I am so excited to be able to pastor such a great family of believers and to be a part of the unique calling that God has placed on First Assembly.
2.  Madelynn started Pre-school!
Madelynn's first day of pre-school!

Madelynn’s first day of pre-school!

Just before last Thanksgiving Madelynn started Pre-school.  It is so hard to believe that I already have a child who is in school.  She is loving school and making new friends all of the time. It is so fun to hear about what she is learning and how the mind of  pre-schooler works.

3.  Rochelle, Madelynn and I welcomed our new baby girl Joy Renee into the world.
On August 21, 2013 at 11:15am Joy Renee Ferguson made her debut into the world.  She is living up to her name already and has been welcomed with open arms by her big sister.  Unfortunately, she had to stay in the NICU for seven days, but is a very healthy baby who cannot stop smiling.  We are actually going to have Joy dedicated in our Sunday morning service on December 8.  I am looking forward to that day as it will be something we will remember forever.
What a smile!

What a smile!

The Ferguson family has been moving at a pretty high speed for the past fifteen months!  As I look back it is hard to believe everything that has happened in such a short amount time.  God has truly blessed us in every area of our life and we cannot wait to see where He will take us.

For those of you who did not know that this blog even existed, I want to encourage you to subscribe by clicking on the envelop icon or the orange rss feed icon at the top right of the page.  These posts can come to you right in your email box or through your rss feed.  Moving forward, you can expect a post more than once in every fifteen months.  Well…I will do more than that and will aim for posting on a weekly basis, but I can’t make any promises.  I talk about topics mainly having to do with family, ministry, and leadership.  There will also be a great deal about what is happening at First Assembly as well so that you can stay up to date on events, information, and the direction of our church.
Before you leave go ahead and leave a comment below on what God has been doing in your life over the past couple of months.

A few weeks ago my pastor said from the pulpit that the church is supposed to be supplemental in the raising of your children.  I take this idea very seriously as a pastor and I am always trying to find ways to equip parents.  Today I want to recommend what I would consider the best worship music out there for children right now.

More than a few times a parent has asked me how they could get their hands on quality worship music for their children. Continue Reading…

Purity…Much Bigger Than Sex

Jeff  —  January 26, 2011 — 4 Comments

Next week we are starting our purity series in our student ministry.  I am calling this a purity series because purity is so much bigger than sex.  There is the mistaken notion that there is this line drawn somewhere, and when we cross it we have lost our purity. What a horrible view that we often pass down to our students.  Ironically, this view leads to both permissiveness and legalism. Both of which are prevalent among students, leaders, and parents.  Not only is this wrong but it is unbiblical. Continue Reading…

A Challenge From 2010

Jeff  —  January 2, 2011 — Leave a comment

My pastor asked the whole staff to share with our congregation our biggest challenges in 2010 as it relates to something we did or taught in our area of ministry.  Here is what I shared.

The biggest thing that has challenged me over the course of this past year has to do with a series we did with our students as well as church-wide called, “Primal.”  The series was all about stripping Christianity down to its bare essence.  The theme verse for the entire series was the Great Commandment. We gathered in the foyer of our church yesterday morning waiting for the children to arrive from the elementary school. The presents were under the tree and the Christmas music was playing.  I didn’t know what to expect.  Will the kids be excited? Would they be surprised?  These were just a couple of thoughts running through my head.  When they arrived my questions were answered. Continue Reading…

Believe it or not, there are children who will wake up on Christmas morning with little to nothing under the tree.  The excitement that you and I have felt as kids and still feel to this day will not be there for them.  I know this is hard to comprehend, but this will be the reality for many children across the nation on Christmas Day. Day #2

How much money do I usually spend on one Christmas gift?  This is the question I asked our Jr. and Sr. High students the past couple of Wednesday nights. Continue Reading…

To Save A Life

Jeff  —  August 14, 2010 — Leave a comment

Last Wednesday night we watched the movie, “To Save A Life” in our student ministry.  What an awesome story of how one teenager steps outside of his circle of friends to impact other students who he would otherwise not associate with.  I would say this is probably the best Christian movie that I have ever seen.  It is an honest look into teenage culture and all of the harsh realities that exist.   Continue Reading…

This is my first post in a little more than a week. More on that tomorrow.

Today Pastor Barry is talking about the lessons he has learned from 27 years of ministry. Here we go…

VBS…It’s Worth It!

Jeff  —  July 23, 2010 — 2 Comments

It feels good waking up a little tired, knowing you spent your energies this week on something that counts.  It felt good passing volunteers in the hallways last night after we were done, seeing the tired but satisfied look on their faces.  It feels good knowing that you spent a week of your life acting weird and definitely looking weird so that in some way kids could connect with Gods Word.   Continue Reading…
